What is Gut Health?
Flex Fitness personal trainer Alistair, discusses what gut health is and its importance in your overall health.
If you’ve ever felt that tingling in your stomach when you see some tasty looking foods, that is your gut communicating with your brain. The human body has 5 different microbiomes, gut, skin, mouth, respiratory and urogenital. These microbiomes contain microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
When you have health microbiomes in the body, it will help with protecting the body against invading pathogens, activating your immune system and digesting your food. It is important to eat foods that help you have the proper balance instead of having too little or too much (there are also good organisms and bad organisms).
Here are things you can do to have optimal gut health:
💪 Eat foods high in fibre (grains, vegetables and legumes).
💪 Eat fermented foods (Kimchi, kefir etc).
💪 Reduce sugar intake (get your sugar from fruit that has fibre as well).
💪 Don’t use or rely on manufacture probiotics (these are not natural and are foreign to your body, which most likely will be rejected).
